At just seven years old, Riley Tarwater is already proving that determination, heart and a love for the sport can take you places far beyond your years.
A kindergartner at Eufaula, Riley has spent the past two seasons wrestling with the Eufaula Ironheads’ Wrestling Program, and in that short time, she has built a resume that many athletes spend years chasing.
Competing in the 46-pound division, Riley has captured a Tulsa National Championship and earned multiple titles across Oklahoma and beyond. She is a three-time Junior Olympic Championship (JOC) winner; taking first place in the 6-under girls division, 6-under open division, and even stepping up to win in the 8-under open division.
Her success doesn’t stop there.
Riley is a two-time Bat- tle for the Belt Champion and a two-time Oklahoma Open Champion. She also claimed the Southeast Regional Championship, where she was named Outstanding Wrestler, a recognition that speaks not just to wins, but also to her skill, effort, and presence on the mat.
On the state level, Riley stands at the top, earning the title of Oklahoma State Champion in the 6-under girls division. Nationally, she has made her mark as well, finishing second at the prestigious Reno Worlds event, competing against some of the best young wrestlers in the country.
Today, Riley holds the distinction of being ranked No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in Oklahoma, along with being named an All-American wrestler, remarkable achievements for an athlete still in elementary school.
Beyond the titles and rankings, Riley’s story is about something deeper.
It’s about stepping onto the mat with courage. It’s about learning discipline at an age when most are just discovering their interests. It’s about representing her hometown with pride every time she competes.
Those who watch Riley wrestle see more than just a young athlete; they see confidence growing, resilience forming, and a future full of promise.
In a sport that demands toughness, Riley Tarwater is showing that strength doesn’t come from size, it comes from heart.
And if her early success is any indication, this is only the beginning of a story Eufaula will be proud to follow for years to come.Riley is the daughter of Stephanie Tarwater.
The Eufaula Wrestling program has been the most successful in the state the last two years under head coach Dave Hutchings. They have three World of Wrestling National Duels All-Americans.
