Consistency, confidence, and quiet determination are beginning to define Checotah senior Wes Brown’s final season on the golf course.
For Brown, golf has become more than just a sport — it’s where preparation meets patience, and where steady improvement is turning into standout performances.
Competing in the Muldrow tournament at Wolf Mountain Golf Course in Poteau, Brown turned in a solid round of 82, setting the tone for what would quickly become an upward trend. But it was what came next that truly showcased his growth.
Just one week later, Brown elevated his game at the Eufaula tournament at Arrowhead Golf Course, shaving strokes off his score and finishing with an impressive 79. The strong round earned him a sixth-place finish overall, placing him among the top competitors in the field and reinforcing his ability to compete at a high level.
The improvement wasn’t by accident.
Brown’s progress reflects hours of work refining his swing, sharpening his short game, and developing the mental focus that golf demands. Unlike many sports that Brown has competed in, golf offers no clock to beat and no teammate to lean on in the moment; every shot rests squarely on the player. For Brown, that challenge has become part of the appeal.
“He’s really settled into his game,” those around the program have noted. “You can see the confidence growing each time he steps on the course.”
As a senior, Brown’s leadership is also becoming an important piece for the Checotah golf team. His steady play provides an example for younger golfers, showing what dedication and consistency can produce over time. Each tournament brings another opportunity not only to compete, but also to continue building momentum heading into the heart of the season.
The Checotah squad as a whole has benefited from that presence. With Brown leading the way, the team continues to gain experience across different courses and conditions, preparing for the challenges that lie ahead.
