This spring, Eufaula High School is bridging the gap between the gridiron and the stage. The EHS Drama Club is proud to announce the debut of the Hansard Awards, a new tradition honoring the enduring legacy of the legendary Coach Harry “Ironhead” Hansard.
The awards will be presented for the first time during the “EHS Goes Hollywood!” banquet on May 4, 2026.
While the “Ironhead” mascot has long been a symbol of athletic prowess in Eufaula, the Drama Club aims to highlight that the same strength is required in the arts. The Hansard Award was created to recognize students who demonstrate “iron” will on stage, “iron” resilience in their craft, and an “ironclad” commitment to the Eufaula community.
“At Eufaula High School, the Ironhead spirit isn’t just for sports,” says the program’s leadership. “It takes immense grit to master a performance and put your heart on the line in front of an audience. These custom awards celebrate the strength and commitment our theater students show every day.”
About the Hansard legacy
The Hansard Awards are named after Coach Harry “Ironhead” Hansard, whose name has become synonymous with the resilient spirit of Eufaula. By bringing this name into the arts, EHS Drama Club celebrates the diverse ways students exhibit strength and excellence.
Event highlights:
• The “Hansard” debut: The first-ever presentation of these custom trophies to outstanding students.
• Awards Banquet: The “EHS Goes Hollywood!” celebration on May 4.
• Support the arts: Community members can help “forge the future” of Eufaula theatre through sponsorships that fund stage equipment and educational travel.
Don’t miss “The Rehearsal” As a precursor to the awards, the public is invited to see the “iron” spirit in action. The EHS Drama Club will perform “The Rehearsal” on April 23 at 7 p.m. This performance serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication that the Hansard Awards were designed to honor.
