Eufaula’s bats were alive and cracking Tuesday, but a few costly moments proved the difference as the Ironheads fell 9-5 to Muldrow in a game that didn’t lack for excitement.
Eufaula (3-12) outhit Muldrow 8-1, showing consistency at the plate from start to finish. Jax Williams set the tone with a two-hit performance, helping fuel an offense that kept pressure on all night.
The Ironheads struck first in the second inning, taking advantage of a Muldrow error to get on the board. They kept the momentum rolling in the third, adding two more runs after Chase Bumgarner worked a key walk to spark the rally.
But Muldrow answered in a big way. Capitalizing on walks and a timely single, they surged ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the third.
Eufaula refused to back down.
In the fourth, the Ironheads battled back to reclaim a 5-4 lead behind clutch singles from Ben Sanchez and Kace Bell. The dugout had energy, and momentum appeared to swing back in Eufaula’s favor.
That momentum didn’t last long.
Muldrow responded again in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of an error and productive outs to plate three runs and jump back in front 7-5, a lead they would not surrender.
Despite only managing one hit, Muldrow made the most of every opportunity, drawing nine walks and swiping nine bases to manufacture runs and keep constant pressure on the Ironheads’ defense.
On the mound, Kace Bell struck out six but battled control issues, while Muldrow’s starter went the distance, striking out 12 and limiting damage despite allowing eight hits.
Eufaula continued to fight, using aggressive base running to stay in the game. Bumgarner led the charge with two stolen bases, and the Ironheads totaled four steals on the night.
Sanchez and Bell each drove in a run, but ultimately, missed opportunities and defensive miscues proved costly in a game where Eufaula did many things right.
