Lady Ironheads explode early, cruise past Weleetka
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads wasted no time setting the tone Monday, unleashing an early offensive surge and backing it up with airtight defense in a commanding 10-0 shutout victory over Weleetka.

From the first pitch, Eufaula came out aggressive and in control.

The Lady Ironheads opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, stringing together three sharp singles to jump ahead. Maddison Lee ignited the offense with a run-scoring hit, giving Eufaula an early edge and momentum they would never surrender.

That momentum only grew in the second inning.

Eufaula poured it on with a four-run frame, highlighted by Hannah Beaver’s clutch single that drove in two runs. Abby Box followed with an RBI single of her own, and pressure on the base paths forced a Weleetka miscue that brought another run across. By the end of the inning, the Lady Ironheads had firmly taken control.

Then came the knockout blow.

In the third inning, Leah Green ripped a double to extend the lead to 10-0, putting the game well out of reach and showcasing the depth of Eufaula’s lineup.

While the offense stole the spotlight, the Lady Ironheads’ defense and pitching were just as dominant.

Abby Box delivered a composed and efficient performance in the circle, allowing just one hit over four scoreless innings while keeping Weleetka off balance throughout. Behind her, the defense was sharp and disciplined, turning two double plays and consistently shutting down any scoring threats before they could develop.

At the plate, Eufaula tallied 11 hits in a balanced team effort. Box, Briley Gragg, and Green each recorded two hits, while Box, Beaver, Green, and Ava Neill all drove in two runs apiece, a testament to the Lady Ironheads’ ability to produce up and down the lineup.

Lady Ironheads battle

to the final out in tough 3-1 loss to Warner The Eufaula Lady Ironheads (4-11) showed grit, discipline, and defensive strength from first pitch to final out Tuesday, but a late surge by Warner proved just enough in a hardfought 3-1 contest.

In a game defined by strong pitching and timely plays, Eufaula struck first and never backed down.

The Lady Ironheads broke through in the second inning when Ava Neill delivered, ripping a double that brought home the game’s first run and gave Eufaula an early spark. From there, the matchup turned into a pitcher’s duel, with both teams trading zeros and defensive stops.

Abby Box was steady and composed in the circle for Eufaula, going the distance and recording all 21 outs. She worked through traffic and pressure situations, limiting damage and keeping the Lady Ironheads within striking distance all night.

Warner finally edged ahead in the fifth inning, stringing together a pair of key hits to take a 2-1 lead. Still, Eufaula remained within reach, leaning on clean defense and timely execution to stay in the fight.

The Lady Ironheads’ defense was flawless, turning a double play and committing no errors. Leah Green anchored the field with seven chances handled cleanly, highlighting a disciplined effort behind their pitcher.

Eufaula continued to battle at the plate, with Box and Rayleigh Peterson each collecting two hits. Neill led the team with the lone RBI as the Lady Ironheads kept pressure on throughout the game.

Warner added an insurance run in the seventh on a solo home run, but Eufaula never let up, competing until the final out.

Despite the loss, the Lady Ironheads showcased resilience, sharp defense, and the kind of fight that keeps them competitive in every inning.

Eufaula returns to action looking to build on a performance that, while not reflected in the final score, showed a team capable of going toe-to-toe with anyone.
