December 21, 1937 – April 6, 2026
Julian Rudd Garrett, 88, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on April 6, 2026. Rudd was born on December 21, 1937, in Hanna, Oklahoma. He was the son of Earl Julian Garrett and Ida Mae Rudd Garrett.
Rudd attended elementary schools in Eufaula, Oklahoma, Roswell, New Mexico and Checotah, Oklahoma and graduated from Eufaula High School in 1955.
His freshman college year he was at New Mexico Military Academy in Roswell. He also attended Northeastern and the University of Oklahoma (“a professional college student” as he said) and then graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1962 with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration.
On August 15, 1959, Rudd married Janice White Garrett. They were married for 66 years. They have two sons, Steven Rudd Garrett and Patrick Garrett.
Rudd worked for Bishop Stoddard Cafeterias in Iowa and later owned Pier 7 Restaurant in Oklahoma City.
After selling Pier 7 in 1966, the family moved to Lexington, Kentucky where Rudd worked at the University of Kentucky and Jerrico, Inc. After serving as Vice-President of Jerrico he started his own vending company.
Rudd was an engaging storyteller revolving around his experiences as a toddler in Hanna, living in Roswell, New Mexico, during the time that the bomber pilots from World War II stayed at the Zuni Motel, which his parents owned, and his many shenanigans with friends at Eufaula High.
His wry sense of humor added color to his entertaining stories.
He was a wonderful husband, a loyal, loving and devoted companion to Janice and a great Dad to his sons. He was a truly kind and sweet man. His strong work ethic and common sense added to the admiration that so many who knew him expressed through the years.
Rudd is survived by his wife, Janice, two sons, Steven Rudd Garrett and wife, Jana Stephens Garrett, son, Patrick Garrett, and one grandson, Nathan Raleigh Garrett and wife, Nicole Louise Scheufleur. He loved his two girls whom Steve and Nathan married.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Earl and Ida Mae Garrett, his sister, Patti Pipkins, as well as many dear friends in Kentucky, Florida and Oklahoma.
