Can’t I just worship alone? Is being part of a Church really that important?

Absolutely! The New Testament emphasized the importance of the local Church. Paul established local congregations everywhere he preached the gospel. Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us why the local Church is vital.

“And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

It is only in the local body to which one is committed that there can be the level of closeness and community that is required for encouraging fellowbelievers “to love and good deeds.” And it is only in this setting that we can encourage one another.

Paul encouraged Timothy to emphasize public worship that includes three things: hearing the Word, being called to action and obedience, and teaching. “Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching” (1 Timothy 4:13). It is only in the context of the local assembly that these things can most effectively take place.

“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 Your connection to a local Church that you can serve with, be encouraged by, and join with in worship is absolutely vital. God does not want us to be isolated and alone. I believe God wants us to be part of a loving family of people who love Jesus and each other. You need the Church more than you can realize, and in my experience, my Church family has been an amazing blessing for me and so many others.

If you are reading this today and do not have a Church to call home, we would love to meet you at FBC Eufaula! We are located at 400 West Foley in Eufaula. FBC Wednesday nights start each Wednesday at 6 p.m. with great ministries for Adults, Students and Children. On Sundays, our Small Group Bible studies begin at 8:45 a.m. and you are invited to worship with us at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday. You can join us in person or online at www.eufaulafbc. org.

Know that you are loved! Pastor J. Ingram FBC Eufaula
