Wildcats rally late to Edge Beggs 2-1
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

CHECOTAH — The Checotah Wildcats showed grit on Tuesday, battling through a tight contest before pushing across the go-ahead run late to defeat Beggs 2-1.

With the game locked at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Checotah found the spark it needed. Eli Patterson tagged up and raced home to score the decisive run, giving the Wildcats the lead and shifting the momentum squarely in Checotah’s favor.

The Wildcats struck first earlier in the game when Mason Rainbolt drove in a run with a groundout in the bottom of the first inning to give Checotah a 1-0 advantage.

Beggs answered in the top of the fourth inning when their No. 4 hitter laced a single down the left-field line to tie the game at 1-1, setting up the late-game drama.

Rainbolt was dominant on the mound for Checotah. The righthander struck out 10 batters while allowing just three hits and one run over 4⅔ innings of work. Despite battling through six walks, Rainbolt consistently delivered key pitches to keep Beggs from breaking through.

Reliever Ty Guthrie shut the door the rest of the way. The left-hander tossed 2⅓ innings of hitless relief, striking out three while working around three walks to secure the Wildcats’ hard-fought victory.

At the plate, Checotah’s lineup delivered timely contributions. Taten Ferguson and Rainbolt each drove in a run for the Wildcats. Cale Thompson, Camden Ferguson and Rainbolt each collected a hit to help pace the Checofrom tah offense.

Beggs’ pitcher was also impressive in defeat, striking out seven and allowing just three hits in five innings. He even recorded an immaculate inning in the fourth, striking out the side on only nine pitches.

The Demons also showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks and swiping four bases during the game.

In the end, however, Checotah’s pitching and timely execution proved to be the difference as the Wildcats battled their way to the 2-1 victory.

The win highlights the Wildcats’ resilience early in the season as they continue to build momentum on the diamond.

Thompson’s Late Home Run highlights Wildcats’ effort against Beggs The Checotah Wildcats battled until the final inning Monday, showing resilience and flashes of power despite falling to Beggs 4-1 in the season opener.

Checotah collected four hits on the night—twice as many as Beggs—and continued to compete down to the final at-bat. Senior Cale Thompson led the Wildcats at the plate, going 2-for-3 and providing the biggest moment of the game for Checotah.

Trailing late, Thompson launched a solo home run to right field in the top of the seventh inning, putting the Wildcats on the scoreboard and giving Checotah fans a highlight to close out the contest.

Beggs broke through first in the bottom of the third inning after a walk helped spark the rally. The Demons capitalized on the opportunity, scoring on a wild pitch to take the early lead.

Ace Wilhite started on the mound for Checotah and battled through five innings of work. The right-hander allowed just two hits while striking out four and working through several tough at-bats.

Defensively, the Wildcats also showed discipline in the field, turning a double play during the game to help limit Beggs’ opportunities.

Thompson’s strong night at the plate paced the Checotah offense, while the Wildcats’ four-hit performance kept the pressure on throughout the contest.

Beggs pitcher earned the win after tossing a complete game, allowing one run on four hits while striking out 11.

Despite the loss, Checotah showed encouraging signs both at the plate and in the field as the Wildcats continued to build momentum early in the season. Thompson’s late home run and the team’s solid defensive play highlighted the determination that has become a trademark of the Wildcats this year.
