Victory Christian ends season for Lady Wildcats
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Victory Christian Lady Conquerors brought the Checotah Lady Wildcats’ (4-18) season to a close Friday at Keys with a 48-34 regional victory. Checotah came out strong in the opening quarter, setting the early tone with aggressive play and confident shooting. The Lady Wildcats edged Victory Christian 11-9 in the first period behind contributions from Logan Dowdy, Nakia Carr, Kalleigh York, and Shyanne Madewell. Madewell caught fire early, scoring five of her team-high 18 points in the opening frame to keep Checotah in control.

The second quarter turned into a physical battle in the paint. Emma Lynn of Victory Christian proved to be a matchup problem throughout the night, battling Carr and York inside while consistently finding ways to score. Addie Britt gave Checotah valuable minutes off the bench, applying defensive pressure and fighting for position in the lane.

At one point, the Lady Wildcats held a 19-16 advantage, but momentum began to shift as Victory Christian adjusted offensively. Checotah struggled to contain Lynn, who caught fire from the perimeter. The sharpshooter poured in three-pointer after three-pointer, finishing with a game-high 26 points to propel the Lady Conquerors ahead for good.

Victory Christian capitalized on turnovers and turned defensive stops into transition points, steadily widening the gap. Meanwhile, Checotah had difficulty at the free-throw line and on the defensive boards, limiting their chances to mount a comeback.

Despite the loss, the Lady Wildcats had strong individual efforts. Madewell led Checotah with 18 points in her final high school game, while Dowdy added seven points and York finished with five points. York was especially impactful in the fourth quarter, recording multiple blocks and protecting the rim with determination.

For Checotah, the defeat marks the end of the road and the conclusion of a high school career for lone senior Shyanne Madewell. For Victory Christian, the regional win keeps their postseason hopes alive as they advance to the next round.

The future is bright for the Lady Wildcats as they return Carly Dismukes, Logan Dowdy, Addie Britt and Nikia Carr among others for the 26-27 season.
