Eufaula’s Connor McAllister and Ayden Ford wrapped up their high school fishing careers with heart and hustle at the Student Angler Federation event on Grand Lake— just before they take their talents to the collegiate level at Murray State.

The duo battled tough conditions throughout practice and the opening rounds, struggling to find the right bite. Offshore action never came together, and boat captain Sean McAllister’s instincts to stay shallow didn’t pay off early with the high water levels stifling big bites.

But by Day 3, something clicked. McAllister and Ford began to dial in a pattern— only to be met with heartbreak. Three big fish slipped away, each one a potential ticket to the final day and a shot at qualifying for the World Championship. The lost opportunities proved costly, but their determination and late surge showed just how far they’ve come.

The team finished Day 1 with 9.04 pounds in 48th place out of 299 teams—not quite enough to make the cut, but more than enough to show they’re ready for the next level. With strong instincts, solid teamwork, and a passion for the sport, McAllister and Ford are primed to make waves on the college circuit.
