Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas is urging high school seniors in his district to apply for one of the U.S. Service Academies.
Each year, Lucas nominates a limited number of candidates for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland; U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York.
To attend a service academy, you must be a U.S. citizen, between the ages of 17 and 22, unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children.
“You must also have a congressional nomination, which is how my office can help. Visit my website for more details and available applications,” Lucas said.
He noted that if you have considered pursuing higher education or joining the military, the Service Academies may be for you.
“They provide the opportunity to challenge yourself both mentally and physically while also earning a bachelor’s degree from the top schools in the country. Upon graduation, you receive a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as Second Lieutenant. This education comes at no financial cost, but it does require a minimum of five years of military service after graduation.”
