Longtime Eufaula coach Jerad Efurd was named the recipient of the Eufaula Indian Journal Coach of the Year award presented by sports editor Rodney Haltom. Efurd is the head coach of the Eufaula golf team where he had Rylee McNeill make the OSSAA state golf tournament. Efurd also is the assistant coach for the Lady Ironheads basketball team where they finished the year in Area play and is the assistant coach of the Lady Ironheads’ fast-pitch softball team that made their second consecutive appearance in the OSSAA State tournament.

COURTESY coach and Hall of Famer Bill Parcells said that assistant coaches are the nuts and bolts of any sports team and coach Efurd definitely fits that mold. He is one of those coaches that if he raises his voice you better listen because he doesn’t do that often. He never wants the spotlight on him but on his teams that he coaches. He always wants the best for his students and Eufaula,” Eufaula Indian Journal Sports Editor Rodney Haltom said.

“I really appreciate this honor and my student athletes and the coaches I work with,” Jerad Efurd said emotionally.
