Many Forced to Move By Government in 1959 Perhaps the biggest story in the City of Eufaula for 1959 was the relocation of many fine farm families, forced to move out with the creation of the Eufaula reservoir. Though some moved to Eufaula and Checotah, and some bought available farms in the county, it was to the county’s misfortune that many had to move to other areas, and states.

Only last week the Edgar Turner family of Fame moved to New Mexico, and previously such staunch natives as the Henry Poisons moved to Delamare county and the Beecher Davises to Haskell county.

The Young Moore couple from east of Eufaula built east of Checotah, as others are acquiring new homes by the hundreds.

Big news of the year’s end was the opening of bids for the dam spillway, low bid for which was over $1 million, and advertising for bids that will run near $15 million for a new highway and Katy railroad relocation.
