Crawford’s firepower leads Checotah Wildcats in 18-0 rout over Cleveland
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

Logan Crawford delivered a monster performance Thursday night, driving in five runs on two clutch hits as the Checotah Wildcats (12-18) demolished Cleveland High School 18-0 in a dominant showing.

Crawford ignited the offensive explosion with a bases-clearing double in the second inning, plating three runs, then followed it up with a two-run single—all in the same frame.

The second inning proved to be a historic one for Checotah, as the Wildcats erupted for 15 runs. It was an offensive clinic: Traegan Duvall, Dalton Carter, and Dallas Carter each drew bases-loaded walks to bring in runs. Crawford’s single brought home two more. Bryce Marshall smashed an RBI double, followed by RBI hits from Cale Thompson and Camden Ferguson. Charles Collins and Duvall added to the chaos with RBI walks. Crawford capped off the inning with another 3-run double, and Marshall drove in one more with a single.

The Wildcats weren’t finished yet. In the third inning, they tacked on two more runs with RBI singles from Collins and Duvall, stretching the lead to 18.

On the mound, Dallas Carter was lights out. The right-hander tossed five shutout innings, giving up only two hits while fanning six. His pinpoint control and dominant presence stifled Cleveland’s offense from the first pitch.

Checotah’s plate discipline was a key factor in the blowout win. The team racked up 13 walks and 10 hits. Marshall, Crawford, and Ferguson each tallied two hits, while Carter led the team with three walks.

It was a statement win for the Wildcats, with Crawford’s bat and Carter’s arm leading the charge in a game that showcased Checotah’s firepower on both sides of the ball.

Checotah’s season ends with hard-fought loss to Grove Ridgerunners, 12-5 The Checotah Wildcats baseball team wrapped up their season with a tough 12-5 loss to the Grove Ridgerunners on Friday, closing out their campaign with a 12-19 record.

Grove came out swinging, jumping on the scoreboard in the top of the first thanks to a center-field double by Walker and an RBI single from Avery, each bringing in a run. The Ridgerunners weren’t done yet. They capitalized on an error in the second inning to score two more, and Brady’s RBI single stretched their early lead even further.

Checotah refused to go quietly. In the bottom of the third, Mason Rainbolt ripped a double down the left field line, igniting a rally that brought the Wildcats roaring back to tie the game at five.

But Grove answered with a vengeance in the fourth. A groundout by Brady plated one, followed by a clutch double from Walker that drove in two more. A final RBI single capped the four-run inning, giving Grove a commanding 9-5 lead they never surrendered.

On the mound, Charles Collins started for Checotah, giving up 10 hits and nine runs (six earned) over four innings, with one strikeout and one walk. Grove’s starter stayed strong through seven innings, allowing 10 hits and five runs (two earned), while striking out four.

Checotah’s bats were alive despite the loss. Rainbolt led the charge with three RBIs and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bryce Marshall sparked the offense, going 3-for-4, and Traegan Duvall added a solid 2-for-3 performance.

Grove’s lineup stayed hot, collecting 12 hits. Walker was unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Dustin and Avery also chipped in with multiple hits as Grove played clean defense, turning a key double play to snuff out any hopes of a Checotah comeback.
