Lady Wildcats launch comeback
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

CHECOTAH — It was a showdown packed with drama, grit, and heart-pounding action for both teams as the Checotah Lady Wildcats (0-7) nearly pulled off the unthinkable Monday evening, erasing a 12-run deficit against in-county rival Eufaula Lady Ironheads before falling just short in a 12-10 thriller.

Trailing 12-0 in the fourth inning, the Lady Wildcats roared to life with an offensive explosion that ignited the home crowd and rattled the visitors. Fueled by clutch hitting, sharp base running, and unwavering determination, Checotah scored 10 unanswered runs over the final four innings, nearly flipping the script on what looked like a runaway game.

Shaelynn Casey was simply on fire. The Wildcats’ sparkplug went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, slapping three singles and a rocket double to anchor Checotah’s comeback bid. Her relentless bat set the tone and kept Eufaula on edge until the final out.

After Eufaula built a 3-0 lead through three innings, they seemed to slam the door with a nine-run fourth, scoring in every way imaginable: walks, errors, clutch hits, and chaos on the base paths. Checotah refused to roll over.

In the bottom of the fifth, the rally began. Hailey Prince drove in a run to spark the fire, Casey followed with a two-run double, Sidney Hamilton plated another on a groundout, and Sydni West smashed a two-run double to cap a six-run inning that jolted the crowd to its feet.

West ended the day with three RBIs on 2-for-3 hitting, while Prince chipped in with two hits and a walk. The Lady Wildcats weren’t just hitting, they were grinding. They drew six walks and forced the Lady Ironheads to battle for every out.

On the mound, Makyah Black showed toughness, go- ing the distance despite Eufaula’s early surge. She struck out three and walked 11 but never lost her composure as her team rallied around her.

Eufaula was led by seniors Kadie Jo Tidwell and Kate Pippenger, and Briley Gragg, each driving in two runs, with Rayleigh Peterson adding two hits. Peterson continues to play a big part in the infield. Despite the pressure, the Lady Ironheads held on, playing errorfree defense and leaning on timely plays to seal the win.

Final Score: Eufaula 12, Checotah 10.

What a fight. What a finish. The Lady Wildcats may have come up just short on the scoreboard, but they won the night with heart, hustle and an unforgettable comeback effort.
