Eufaula Lady Ironheads slowpitch team defeats Checotah Lady Wildcats

Eufaula Lady Ironheads (6-5) defeated the Checotah Lady Wildcats 9-5 on Monday.

Eufaula got on the board in the third inning after Jadence Efurd singled, scoring one run.

The Lady Wildcats (0-6) battled back in the top of the fourth inning after Shaelynn Casey singled down the left field line and Shyanne Madewell scored after tagging up, each scoring one run.

A fielder’s choice by Rayleigh Peterson gave the Lady Ironheads the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth.

Checotah captured the lead, 5-4, in the top of the sixth after Casey doubled to center field, Sidney Hamilton singled to center field, and Casey scored after tagging up, each scoring one run.

Eufaula flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 9-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by senior Kate Pippenger that drove in two runs.

Makayla Harjo earned the win for Eufaula. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out none and walking six. Makyah Black took the loss for Checotah. The pitcher went six innings, giving up nine runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking 15.

Senior Jadence Efurd led Eufaula with three hits in four at bats. Kate Pippenger and Hannah Beaver each drove in two runs for the Lady Ironheads.

Kadie Jo Tidwell paced Eufaula with four walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up 15 walks for the game. Eufaula turned one double play in the game.

Hailey Prince, Shaelynn Casey, and Shyanne Madewell each collected two hits for Checotah. Shaelynn Casey and Sidney Hamilton were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Checotah. The Lady Wildcats had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Two great highlights of the game were when Briley Gragg made a sensational diving catch for the final out of the inning. Another highlight was when Checotah turned one double play in the game.
