A recent spat between Superintendent Ryan Walters and Governor Kevin Stitt has many people asking: what is happening?

According to one Oklahoma congressman, it’s posturing. “It’s political season, right?” Rep. Kevin Hern told NOTUS. “It’s about who’s going to run for governor, who’s been the governor and who is going to be the next OSU president. All those things really matter.” NOTUS is a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom reporting on Washington. Oklahoma Watch on Wednesday published their story, Ryan Walters Is Trying to Out-MAGA His Peers and It’s Making Things Awkward in Oklahoma, as part of a new partnership between the two organizations.

Walters hasn’t yet announced a run for governor, but political analysts predict he will. He’s one of four potential candidates named by CHS & Associates in a recent poll; the others are Attorney General Gentner Drummond, former House Speaker Charles McCall, who have both declared their candidacy, and Chip Keating, former governor Frank Keating’s son, who has not.

Thirty-six percent of Republicans described Walters as unfavorable in the poll, much higher than the other three potential candidates.
