Rebel yell not loud enough against Ironheads
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Ironheads (17-6) used a 23-point third period to shut down the Silo Rebels 59-45 Friday on senior night at Perry Anderson Gymnasium. With the halftime score 26-23 in favor of Eufaula, the home team unleashed an offensive barrage on Silo, outscoring Silo 23-15. It was a great team win as Eufaula finished the game with nine scorers.

Eufaula senior guards Maddox Bridges and Keaton Parish swarmed the Rebels on both ends of the court grabbing rebounds, forcing turnovers and scoring in transition. The Ironheads began to pull away when Dusty Eby hit a three-point bucket to give Eufaula a 42-34 lead with 2:25 remaining in the third period.

One possession later, Bridges would score from the free throw line followed by a Parish rebound, Dacen Hunter rebound and pass to Bridges for a layup.

Silo would score but Bridges took away any momentum when he hit a three-point shot to extend the lead 49-38. The Rebels drove down court but were forced out of their shooting lane by Jace Davis who grabbed the rebound as the horn blew ending the third period 49-38.

A key to the victory was the Ironheads ability to out rebound Silo. Hunter, Logan Plant, Jace Davis and Jentry James were all dominant in the paint.

The Rebels struggled against the high-pressure defense of the Ironheads. Ty Sparks, James and Bridges were great in the final period. They out played Silo and with 3:53 remaining Plant made a solid pass to Bridges who was wide open for a score to make it a 52-41 game.

Hunter got hacked while trying to shoot a short jumper and was sent to the foul line and successfully made both shots. On the next play Hunter fouled a Silo player for a rebound and the official called it Rebel’s ball but Hunter didn’t like the call and received a technical after being disrespectful to the official.

The Rebels scored the two-points to cut the lead 56-45. Two possessions later Dresden Chiles of Eufaula would score a free throw and with 1:02 remaining in regulation Eufaula head coach Rob McKinzie would pull his starters as the Ironheads held on to win 59-45.

Maddox Bridges led Eufaula with 22 points, Dacen Hunter nine points, Jentry James seven points, Keaton Parish six points and Logan Plant added four points.

The Silo Lady Rebels made a last second shot to defeat the Eufaula Lady Ironheads (12-11) 36-34. This was a game that would go down to the wire and that’s exactly what would happen. The game was tied 25-25 at the end of the third period. Johna Bumgarner would score the first points in the final period to give the Lady Ironheads a 27-25 lead. The play in the paint was physical as both teams did their best to make plays under the goal. Kostina Tubby of Silo would draw the foul as she scored to take a 28-27 lead with 5:43 to play. Bumgarner then grabbed a defensive rebound, drove down court and like a sharpshooter hit a NBA three-pointer to take back the lead 30-28.

The Lady Ironheads played well on defense but struggled with turnovers throughout the game. Eufaula forward Jadence Efurd would block Kostina Tubby and make the steal on the next possession but Eufaula turned the ball over but the Rebels missed the shot, Olivia Hamby grabbed the rebound, passed the ball to Lauren Gray who scored to extend the lead 32-28.

Abadbreaktookplace next as Efurd picked up her fourth personal foul sending Silo to the foul line and scored two points.

Kate Pippenger then grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled in the act of shooting and with 2:44 on the clock made both shots to take a 34-30 lead.

Silo was not going away easily and on the next drive No. 3 threw up a circus shot and drew the foul. She made both shots to make it a 34-32 game. Three plays later that included two turnovers, the Rebels tied the game 34-34 with 1:09 left in regulation.

Eufaula tried to set up an offensive play but Silo played good defense and managed to get the rebound and called timeout with 8.6 seconds on the clock. The next play Kynleigh Pierce drove to goal and scored a layup that was well defended with 2.5 seconds remaining as the visiting crowd exploded with cheers as the Lady Rebels sealed the 36-34 heartbreaking win. Silo outscored Eufaula 11-9 in the fourth period.

Johna Bumgarner led the Lady Ironheads with 17 points, Jadence Efurd six points and Elaina Monroe added four points.
