Guy Martin Adams, 49, of Checotah, pleaded no contest on Jan. 8 to violating Oklahoma’s Antiterrorism Act and to threatening to perform an act of violence.
Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges sentenced Adams to five years in prison on the first count but deferred the sentence if he will complete mental health court.
If he fails to complete the special court, he will be sentenced to 10 years in prison.
On the second count, Adams was sentenced to six months in jail, to run concurrently with the sentence on the first count.
Adams was charged with the crimes on Aug. 5, 2024, after allegedly making numerous threats to kill “every Child Support Service Worker” as well as employees of the First Family Credit Union.
When McIntosh County Deputy Sheriff Bradley Smith and Checotah Police Chief Darren Glover went to arrest the suspect, they found him sitting in a recliner on his front porch talking on a cell phone, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Adams reportedly told the officers he was going to beat up Eufaula Police Chief David Bryning.
Smith said he listened to several taped telephone calls between Adams and others.
In various recordings, according to a probable cause affidavit, Adams threatened to kill himself as well as various other people.
“He said he was going to kill DHS workers because they took his life and now, he was going to take theirs,” said the affidavit.
