In Oklahoma, adult anglers need only an annual fishing license to take advantage of most opportunities. An annual fishing license is just $31 and covers anglers for a range of fishing.

However, new rules exempt youth under 18 from a fishing license entirely. The change took effect last year as part of a fishing and hunting license overhaul known as the Oklahoma Wildlife License Modernization Act, a bill that condenses some 50 hunting and fishing licenses down to about 14. Before the bill went into effect July 1, youth were only exempt until age 16, when they were required to obtain a youth fishing license.

Anglers can get their fishing license through their Go Outdoors Oklahoma online account; many find that downloading the mobile app for iPhone or Android is the most efficient way to obtain and carry their license in the field.

Depending on where you fish or the kind of fish you are targeting, additional requirements may apply, such as certain municipal permits, for paddlefish angling, or for fishing in Texas portion of Lake Texoma, for example.
