Theatre lovers can visit New York hassle free
By LENORE BECHTEL IJ CORRESPONDENT,

An unusual program called “Broadway and the Arts” offers a great opportunity to see two live Broadway performances, to get an inside look at the Big Apple, and—for students—to earn high school or college credit.

Registration is being taken now for the 5-day trip which is being promoted by the Eufaula Area Arts Council and the Eufaula High School speech and drama department.

It starts on May 31, 2025, and includes hands-on professional guidance from the moment of arrival until the final goodbye.

The guide in charge of the limited-sized group will be the same person every day.

On the first day a guided walking tour will include Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Times Square.

All will also get to view New York City from one its iconic skyscrapers— either Edge at Hudson Yards, Empire State Building Observatory, or Old World Observatory.

The busy second day starts with a walking tour of Bowling Green Park, Wall Street and Charging Bull statue, Federal Hall, Trinity Church, and the National September 11 Memorial. Then all will take the Circle Line Statue of Liberty cruise, visit Times Square, and attend a live theatre show.

A meet-and-greet event with a Broadway professional highlights the third day, followed by participants having a chance to show off their acting skills in a drama workshop.

The day also includes a tour of Radio City Music Hall.

Day four is dedicated to touring Lincoln Center, including David Geffen Hall, the 2,200seat home of the New York Philharmonic; the David H. Koch Theater, home of the New York City Ballet; and the 3,850-seat Metropolitan Opera House—the world’s largest repertory opera house.

The hustling day also includes a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a photo stop in Central Park, and see-ing a second live theatre show. Both shows will be selected based on what is available on Broadway on the particular dates.

After day five’s guided tour of Greenwich Village, SoHo, Chinatown, and Little Italy—plus either NBC Studios or Rockefeller Center— participants will depart for home. Tickets for all the spots visited are included in the program’s price, which is $2,914 for students and $3,294 for adults. Families able to stay together in one hotel room can arrange proper discounts.

A $95 down payment required for registration will hold a spot, and the rest of the payment can be made closer to the actual date. Trips must be confirmed by the last day of this year.

Eufaula Performing and Arts Club, local student actors who’ve performed well-received plays in Eufaula directed by Selina Jayne-Dornan, are having fundraisers with “Broadway and the Arts” aspirations.

For further information or to register to hold a spot, contact Jayne-Dornan at 918689-6080 or sdornan@eufaula.k12.ok.us.
