Eufaula takes second in Bethel Basketball Tournament
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Ironheads fell to 5-1 overall after coming up short 64-38 to Blanchard in the Bethel Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Blanchard’s offensive barrage stunned the Ironheads as they were outscored 14-3 in the first period. Eufaula battled back in the second period scoring 12 points as Maddox Bridges scored seven of his 11 points. Teammate Keaton Parish added a duce and Dacen Hunter while Ty Spark hit a free throw to make it a 27-15 game at the halftime break.

Blanchard was on fire as they hit shots from across the court and in the paint.

Parish had another solid day on defense and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Eufaula never gave up and played hard till the whistle blew. Dusty Eby led the charge for Eufaula in the fourth period scoring from the perimeter and Bridges added four points while Sparks hit two long three-pointers to end the game 64-38.

“It was a tough game but I’m still very proud of how we competed. Blanchard is a great shooting team and they played great defense on us by taking away our shooting lanes and pressing us. But this was a beneficial tournament. We learned a lot about ourselves,” Eufaula head coach Rob McKinzie said.

Eufaula defeated Mc-Cloud on Thursday 5248.

The Ironheads started the tournament with a 46-39 victory over Perkins- Tyron.Dusty Eby scored a three-pointer in the first period as the Ironheads outscored Perkins 12-8. The wheels fell off in the second period for Eufaula as Perkins battled back to make it a 15-17 game at the halftime break.

However, McKinzie began rotating his players and made a defensive adjustment as Eufaula outscored them 1510 with Dacen Hunter leading the charge from inside the paint with six points. Eufaula continued to make big plays and force turnovers as Ty Sparks scored in transition along with Parish and Bridges to hang for a 46-39 win.

The Lady Ironheads dealt Henryetta a 61-41 loss on Tuesday. It was a 10-11 game at the end of the first period prior to Eufaula shaking off the dust and hitting some perimeter shots. Kate Pippenger and Johna Bumgarner hit threepointers to give the team a shot of enthusiasm and the team responded with a 20-point period in the third period to take a commanding lead. Jadence Efurd dominated the paint while E. Monroe, Pippenger, Maddie Ballard and Bumgarner scored from the floor. Ballard and Bumgarner each scored 14 points in the win while Efurd, Gray, and Pippenger each scored seven points in the win.
