Channel 6 news anchor Craig Day was the guest of honor at this year’s Lights On Eufaula celebration, an event hosted by Karen Weldin and Vision Eufaula.

Hundreds of fans filled the streets, visiting stores open late for early Christmas shoppers.

At about 6:05 p.m. the count-down began to flip the switch that would turn on downtown Christmas lights up and down Main Street.

“We added more lights this year, making the show even more spectacular,” said City Manager Jeb Jones, who introduced Day to the audience, though the popular newscast- er probably needed no introduction to his myriad of fans.

Sherri Wilkins, owner of Lake Dog and Their People and one of many helping organize the Lights On event, greeted the crowd on a night filled with the spirit of Christmas.

Music was in the air provided by the Eufaula recording artist Ava Rose Johnson; the Eufaula high school band; and Blue Mentality, a trio who formed their group when they were in the FFA and have been going strong ever Whoville, an attraction created by Weldin at Legacy on Main Street, attracted most of the kids in town who were greeted by the green Grinch, famous for stealing Christmas and then having a change of heart “that grew three sizes that day.”

There was plenty for the kids – blow up bounce houses from one end of the street to the other; the Polar Express to take them and their parents on a ride around Eufaula; popcorn and bright lights everywhere.
