If you’re a Christian, are you a missionary or an imposter?

God’s heart from the beginning of the Old Testament to the End of the New Testament wants His people to be on Mission with Him. That means being in a relationship with the creator and obediently bearing witness to what God has done in our lives. We need to prioritize witnessing so that others can see God’s goodness through our testimonies.

Would you agree that there are so many lost, broken, and hurting people who need to hear about the glory of Jesus Christ? Yes! So, the heart of God is for His people to be on Mission of telling the good news of salvation in Christ.

Unfortunately, many people are afraid to speak about what God has done in their lives. Many think they aren’t qualified to tell others how the Lord has worked. Church-goers across the world start to think that telling the good news is relegated to “Super Christians” like pastors and missionaries.

But that’s not true. Telling the good news, making disciples, and being on Mission with God is for all who call themselves Christians. You may be thinking you’re not a missionary, and you’re not traveling to foreign lands. You don’t have to be. Those big-M Missionaries are sent, like the apostles, to the farthest reaches of the world. The Mission field is smaller for us small-m missionaries. Wherever you go is your Mission field. Your family, your home, your neighbors, your friendship circles, and your work circles are your easiest Mission fields. The call to spread the good news of Jesus starts at home.

The renowned 19th century minister Charles H. Spurgeon stated the truth very bluntly: “Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.” Wow! That great Prince of Preachers pulled no punches, and he got his point across with pizzazz.

The Bible makes the same point in Romans 10:13-14. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”

We are the ones being called to preach to them—you, me, and every person who believes in Jesus. You don’t have to be in a pulpit to preach. You don’t even have to use words. “Preach the gospel at all times,” said St. Francis Assisi, “and when necessary, use words.” How do we do this? By being consistent models of Christian morality, compassion, helpfulness, grace, and giving.

The offering given at LECC goes to support many missions, one of our favorite being Cookson Hills Christian Home & School, a no-cost alternative to foster care that serves troubled, abused or neglected 5 to 17-yearolds. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Mark 10:14) We’d be pleased for you to come to LECC at 415987 Highway 9, Eufaula, and pursue the Mission right for you. Small group Bible study starts at 10 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., and Wednesday night activities at 6:30 p.m. Start today and be a “little m” missionary for your family and friends. We’d love to encourage you and join you in the calling!

God Bless You!

Jeremy Little, Minister
