Lake Eufaula Christian Church: With the election over, who is your ultimate hope in?

WHEN THE ELECTION IS OVER WE SHOULD… RENEW our trust in God’s sovereignty REAFFIRM our heavenly citizenship REFOCUS our primary mission RESOLVE to respect our leaders RESUME our roles as peacemakers

God laid it on my heart to use this week’s column to remind readers that headlines dominating the news don’t have to dominate your hearts. Sunday I preached a standalone sermon about Donkeys, Elephants, and Jesus, hoping to reset our congregation’s hearts and minds during this incredibly polarizing time in our country. I titled the sermon, “When the election is over.”

After an election, people’s reactions and feelings all over the city, state, and country are understandingly diverse. Those whose candidates won are ecstatic and hopeful. Those whose candidates lost are often angry, depressed, and worried. Every one of us in years past has felt either joy or stinging frustration because of an election.

What much of the world doesn’t truly realize is that only one name can bring the world together, and you won’t find it on a ballot. His name is Jesus, the Name above all Names. Our hope doesn’t reside in a political party, but in the Savior of all mankind.

As Christ-followers, we’re thankful for the opportunity to vote. But more than just voicing our opinions before, during and after voting day, we should show Christ’s love every day. Remember John 13:35 doesn’t say that people will know you belong to Jesus by how you vote, but Jesus says, “People will know you’re mine by how you love one another.”

In my household, we vote for the candidates that best reflect our Christian values and the Biblical stance on issues. Our ultimate hope is never in the elephant or the donkey, but in the Lamb—the Lamb of God named Jesus. He is the one through which everything broken will be healed, everything wronged will be made right, and everything lost can be found.

At LECC we recognize that Jesus is the key for how we live our lives after the election is over. No matter which party holds office, God still holds the world, Jesus is still king, and we are still ambassadors of His kingdom.

Please join us at 415987 Highway 9, Eufaula, where we have small group Bible study at 10 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., and Wednesday night activities at 6:30 p.m. We believe what Acts 4:12 says about Jesus, “Salvation is found in no one else.” No worldly election can change that truth!

God Bless You!
