Halloween weather so nice it was scary
By JERRY FINK MANAGING EDITOR

Main Street was wallto- wall Halloween revelers Thursday.

One of the best ever, some fans gushed.

A few of the adults pulled themselves away from the crowd long enough to go to the courthouse to vote – Halloween and early voting clashed on Oct. 31.

Record numbers of voters seemed to turn out for this year’s General Election early voting. The first day, 486 voted early. Some elections, not that many turned out in total.

Record numbers also seem to have turned out for the Halloween festivities. No exact count was available for the number of people who were in the line of trick-or-treaters and their adult chaperones, but Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Serina Kleveter was impressed.

“A lot of merchants ran out of candy,” she said.

Maybe it was the weather. The heat spell seemed to have been broken for the day. Cold weather is still a ways off.

A perfect fall day for the family to get dressed up and go out on the town.

Some dressed in their favorite costumes. Others were satisfied with street clothes.

There was plenty to keep kiddos entertained.

The Air-Care Med-Evac helicopter was parked in the middle of Main.

Police and sheriff ’s deputies were handing out soft drinks at the Pop With a Cop table. They handed out 1,392 sodas, which gives an idea of how many people were at the festival.

Love Bottling of Muskogee donated 18 cases of sodas. Bank of Eufaula also contributed to the cause.

Most businesses in town handed out candy, either on the sidewalk in front of the store or inside the store in a few places.

Many churches were involved.

First Baptist and Trinity Episcopal had trunkor-treat events. North Fork Baptist had blow-up baskets for kids to try their hands at shooting basketballs.

North Fork also handed out hot dogs.

The Eufaula Fire Department let aspiring young firefighters try their hand at using a fire hose.

And a costumed Sparky the Firedog with the Texanna Fire Department greeted kids.
