Paws N Claws-Eufaula benefitting pound and community
By LADONNA RHODES STAFF WRITER Paws N Claws ? Eu-faula has now helped to

rehome 24 pound pups (both young and old) since January and have helped with double that amount within the community.

“The pound pups are always our top priority and we work quickly to try to find them homes before their 10 days are up,” Lori Powell-Fells said. “Our last sweet pound pup found a wonderful home with Tamara Scott’s family who had rescued another poor dog that had been tossed out on the street and was in really bad shape. They had named him Maciah and loved him like family. Unfortunately, they had just gone through the heartache of losing him in September.”

Tamara had told Paws N Claws that though they knew no other dog would ever take Maciah’s place, they felt the need to go and rescue the pound pup from being euthanized.

“When she came with her son to the pound, the pup went straight to them. Then when they got home the pup went and laid at her husband’s side and wouldn’t leave him. As her husband began to cry the pup pressed even more into him and they knew ‘Isabella’ was sent to help heal his broken heart. Tamara also said they knew too well that rescuing can be rough at times but you must continue to love because there are so many in need.”

Every week Paws N Claws sees more and more social media posts with people begging the community to help with abandoned animals or unwanted litters. There isn’t a day that goes by without several animals being posted that need immediate help.

“This is why we post pictures of the abandoned or neglected animals and ask people from the community to help share and find homes for these poor fur babies. Many go out of our county. Some stay and we make sure they register with the city if they are in city limits. But there is still so much that needs to be changed in our system to stop the abuse of animals and to stop unwanted litters from happening over and over again.”

Paws N Claws partners hope to not only help the local pound but they hope to help the community with other needs too. This is why they started a “Pet Pantry” located inside the office of the Eufaula Indian Journal for those who might need a little extra pet food to make it from paycheck to paycheck.
