Eufaula Lady Ironheads win District Championship
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads were crowned district champs after rolling over Henryetta 8-1 on Thursday and improving to 23-2 overall.

Freshman pitching sensation Leah Green earned the victory from the pitcher’s circle after striking out 10 batters. She allowed three hits and one run over seven innings. Both teams battled it out until the third inning when the Lady Ironheads scored six runs to take a 6-0 lead. It all started when Henryetta pitcher Allie Davis induced Rayleigh Peterson to hit into a fielder’s choice with one run scored.

Emma Lovett has improved with each game as she hit a double, scoring a pair of runs. Jana Hickman smashed a pitch for a double, scoring a run, Green hit a single, scoring a run and Hannah Needham singled, scoring a run.

The impact that Eufaula’s seniors continues as Maddie Ballard hit a home run in the fourth inning to extend the lead 7-0.

“I’m so proud of how we played today. We got a lot of production at the plate and our pitching did a great job. This team has so much talent and I am honored to have the opportunity to coach them,” Eufaula head coach Ryan Green said.

Allie Davis took the loss for the Lady Knights. Davis went six innings, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits, striking out two and walking four.

Emma Lovett led Eufaula at the plate going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, Hannah Needham 2-for-2 with an RBI, Kate Pippenger 2-for-4 with an RBI, Ballard 1-for-3 with an RBI and Jana Hickman finished going 2-for-2 and an RBI.
