Checotah falls to Warner 1-0 in I-40 Championship
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Checotah Lady Wildcats fell to the Warner Eagles 1-0 in Saturday’s 1-40 Tournament Championship. It was a defensive battle with great pitching on both teams. The only score came in the fifth inning when Hailey Prince induced Warners Bailey Hughey to hit a fielders choice, scoring one run.

Hailey Prince took the loss for Checotah. Prince went four innings, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out two and walking three.

Warners Ella LaBounty earned the win for the Eagles. She surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out an impressive 10 batters and walking just one.

Kami Hamm led Checotah at the plate going l-for-2.

“We ran into a buzz saw in Labounty but were very pleased with the way we played this weekend. We had several girls get some rhythm back at the plate and competed in the circle all weekend as well with both pitchers. We were a little short handed due to injury but other girls took advantage of their opportu- nities, which was good to see this late in the season. I think this tournament set us up well to finish out the district play strong,” Checotah head coach Levi Walker said.

The only game Checotah lost was in the championship game. On Friday they blanked Gore 4-0 and on Thursday Checotah defeated Keys 5-1 and topped Roland 8-6.

On Friday Checotah defeated Gore 4-0. The Lady Wildcats came out on fire as they scored three runs in the first inning. Kami Hamm hit a fielder’s choice, scoring a run and an error scored a pair of runs. The pitching was incredible for Checotah as Shaelynn Casey earned the win from the pitcher’s circle. Casey surrendered two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out seven with zero walks.

Hamm went 2-for-3 with an RBI and runs scored, Hailey Prince 1-for-3, Aurora Madewell 1-for-2 and Sydnie West went 1-for-3.

In Thursday’s action Checotah defeated Roland 8-6 and Keys 5-1.

Hailey Prince struck out 16 batters in the 5-1 win over Keys. Prince allowed one hit and one run over six innings. It was a nail biter of a game with zero runs scored in the first three innings. However, Checotah got going in the fourth inning scoring four runs. Shaelynn Casey singled, a pitch hit Sidney Hamilton, Makyah Black grounded out, and Shy-anne Madewell grounded out, each scoring a run.

Aurora Madewell went 1-for-2 with a RBI; Casey 1-for-3 with an RBI and Hamilton had an RBI.
