September is Hunger Awareness Month

Every year in September, members of Feeding America come together for Hunger Awareness Month to raise awareness not only of the issue of food insecurity, but of the incredible impact our community can have when we take action together, says Helen Tremain, with Feeding America.

TLC wants you to meet two of the fiercest hunger fighters we know—Cheryl Wilkerson on the left and Mindy Stewart on the right.

Together these two provide the nucleus for Back Pack Buddies, an organization that sends home food every weekend for Eufaula’s children in need from elementary through high school.

Their superpowers? Hard work, persistence, dedication, and the satisfaction they receive from the joy in helping our next generation.

All of the food is purchased with donations from our community— from folks learning about what they are doing and wanting to help.

This school year is just starting so they don’t know how many will need help this year— last year they helped 104 students weekly plus food for a week at Thanksgiving and help at Christmas.
