40th Annual Hawg Days of summer July 26-27

40th Annual Hawg Days of summer July 26-27

We’re approaching the Hawg Days of summer – those few hot days during the middle of the six weeks of Dog Days of summer (July 3 – Aug. 11) that Eufaula has claimed as its own.

It will be hot and sultry, but folks don’t seem to mind as they walk around town checking out the chefs who will be barbecuing pork, and the arts and crafts show and the car show and other activi-ties that keep the town hopping the last weekend of July.

The 40th Annual Whole Hawg Days are set for July 2627.

The Eufaula Round-Up Club Rodeo coincides with Whole Hawg Days, with competition held at the Fairgrounds Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m.

Also on Thursday, the Eufaula Band Boosters Arts, Crafts and Food Vendors will be set up from 4 p.m. until dark.

This year there will be 26 chefs preparing pork for the cook-off. They will be judged at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Eufaula Community Center.

The annual parade will be held Friday, starting at 7 p.m.

The Whole Hawg Days Poker Run will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Xtreme Cove Marina.

Other popular events to look forward to during the festival include a street dance on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the pulled pork sandwich giveaway at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Community Culture Church.

A car show will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 2nd and Golding Streets.

For those who need a break from the heat, the Eufaula Memorial Library will be a cooling station during the festival. There will be crafts for the kiddos to do and a pig sprinkler to cool you off. You can also get a cup of water or fill your own water bottle. Stop by anytime from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Eufaula Indian Community will also be hosting an indoor arts festival at its community center on Birkes Road, another place to escape the heat.
