Mary M. Cromley

Oct. 10, 1935 – June 10, 2024

Mary M. Cromley, 88, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at her home. Mary was born on Oct. 10, 1935, in Cookson, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clint and Fay (Gay) Sparks.

In 1952, she graduated from Arkansas City High School in Kansas. On Nov. 6, 1955, Mary married Eugene LeRoy Cromley in Arkansas City, Kansas. They were happily married for over 60 years.

Mary worked for Southwestern Bell as an administrative assistant for 28 years.

She loved to quilt, paint and watch OU sports.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Burke of Eufaula; son Steven Cromley of Mission, Kan.; grandchildren, Melinda Lange of Eufaula, Tyler Burke of Eufaula, Ashlee Shakir and husband Jamil of Mobile, Ala., Karlee Cromley of Mission, Kan. and Levi Cromley also of Mission, Kan.; greatgrandchildren, Jaxon Lange, Burkleigh Lange, Asher Lange, Kanaan Lange, Lincoln Burke, Leo Burke, Skyla Jackson, Vaelor Shakir, Eden Shakir, Ember Shakir, Erah Shakir, ElleeAnna Shakir, EverLee Shakir and Eliza Shakir; two great-great-grandsons and one great-greatgranddaughter.

She is also survived by a sister Janet Roland of Eufaula and brother Loye Sparks of Topeka, Kan.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene, sister, Florence O’ Daniel, brothers Herbert Sparks, Gary Sparks and Clint Sparks Jr.

A graveside service was held 1 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Parker Cemetery in Arkansas City, Kansas, under the direction of Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
