Nora Sue Hammett

Nora Sue Hammett, 78, of Eufaula passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in Oklahoma City. Sue was born on April 15, 1946, in Indianola, Oklahoma, the daughter of Elzie Ray and Jessie Mae (Walters) Standridge. She attended school in both Indianola and Eufaula.

On June 10, 1963, Sue married Charles Andrew Hammett at the Lindsey Chapel Baptist Church in Eufaula. They were happily married for 58 years and raised two children before he preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2022.

Sue worked as a clerk at the McIntosh County Treasurers office.

Her favorite pastime was riding the golf cart around town with her husband, Charles.

Survivors include: son, Charles Andrew April 15, 1946 – June 9, 2024

“Bub” Hammett Jr. and wife Lori of Eufaula; grandchildren, Laura Hammett, Charles “Jesse” Hammett, and Shelby Hammett Luellen and husband Joe; daughter, Melissa Beth Hammett-Merrick and husband John; grandchildren, Brandon Merrick and wife Sierra and JT Merrick and wife Laura Jean; great-grandchildren, Alexis Hammett- Tootill, Peyton Hammett, Lena Hammett, Charlee Hammett and Madden Merrick.

She is preceded in death by her parents Elzie and Jessie Mae Standridge, sisters, Betty Monkres and Jean Lawrence and her husband Charles Hammett.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Eufaula Church of Christ with Minister Charlie Bailey officiating.

Pallbearers were Charles “Jesse” Hammett, Brandon Merrick, JT Merrick, Dexter Nelson, and Dalton Menees.

Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Hunn Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
