Museum raises funds at pie auction

Politicians invited to state their cases

The Eufaula Area Museum raised $3,479.18 at a fundraising event held at the VFW on Thursday, May 30.

The event included a pie auction and speeches by six of the political candidates who will be on the ballot at the June 18 Primary Election.

Bringing the highest bid of the night was a cake bought by candidate Kevin Drake for $250.

Brad Carey, the new Vo-Ag teacher at Eufaula High School, was the auctioneer. Carey taught at Webbers Falls prior to accepting the position in Eufaula.

He kept the audience amused as he pitched the sale of pies, cakes and other sweets in between presentations by the political candidates, which included District 2 County Commissioner Monty Grider; Clifford McElhaney, candidate for District 2 commissioner; and Kevin Drake, also a candidate for District 2 commissioner.

Also speaking were candidates for District 15 State Representative Gail Jackson, Tim Turner and Paul Palmer.

A number of office holders also took the opportunity to describe to folks what their jobs entailed, including County Treasurer Betty Whisenhunt; County Clerk Deena Farrow and Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges.

Former Eufaula School Superintendent Jeanette Smith, secre-tary-treasurer of the Museum, emceed the event.

Martha McCracken, Board President, opened the event.

On hand to assist were board members Connie Morris (who baked several of the pies that were sold); Shauna Belyeu (who bought a lemon Meringue pie); Jason Burns; Diana Rippy and Jim Shroyer.

The Museum, which survives on volunteers and donations, is located at 118 Selmon Road. It is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by special appointment.

For information about making a donation e-mail info@eufulaareamuseum. org. The mailing address if P.O. Box 6, Eufaula, Okla., 74432.
