You are the light of the world

Lake Eufaula Christian Church

Christ wants to build us up into a strong assembly of brothers and sisters that you can invite into your lives to not only worship together, but to help overcome spiritual warfare! He wants you to be a magnet that says, “You’re influential” because every single one of you has an influence, whether you believe it or not.

If you’re a follower of Christ, then you’re called by God to influence others for His glory. Even if you doubt being an influencer, believe that our God could give you one moment of faith, one expression of his love, or one word of encouragement, to change someone else’s life. You can get started witnessing the good news of Jesus and being an influencer in very simple ways.

When you listen to someone who’s hurting at work, and you represent the love of Jesus by not judging where they are, but loving them, you’re an influencer. When you post a scripture on your social media page, or repost a sermon clip, you might influence someone that you don’t even know.

When you help someone who’s uncomfortable and nervous just to feel loved, you demonstrate that you’re following Jesus’s will. The way that you worship, or the way you carry yourself— who you are and whose you are—you can be a Godly influence. Do not let today’s antichurch culture rob you from God’s calling.

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor?” Jesus asked in Matthew 5:13a. Salt preserves, and salt flavors. It was a very valuable commodity in biblical times, as precious as pure gold today. Roman soldiers were paid in salt, the derivative of the word “salary.” One who didn’t do his job well was said to be “not worth his salt.”

In practical terms, salt must penetrate the food for it to work just as someone who considers themselves a Christian must penetrate their circles of society to have godly flavor and be impactful for the kingdom. When we understand this, we’re helping preserve this world from evil that wants to rot and decay the goodness of God.

Jesus also said, ““You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew 5:1416) If you are a Christfollower today, then Jesus calls you to be both salt and light.

What does light do? It illuminates a sinful world and drives the darkness away! You’re called to let your kindness and your love influence people toward Jesus as you fulfill the true meaning of being an influencer.

Biblical influence starts with people and is all about relationships. All of us have people in our sphere that we contact every single day. Christ wants you to be an influencer for Him. How? By being a godly influence in the lives of others. Maybe you’ve tried in the past, but your friend, or family member, or a co-worker simply weren’t having it. Please remember that influence isn’t always instant. Just because you don’t see a harvest doesn’t mean the seed hasn’t taken root. You are influential to witnessing the good news about Jesus Christ!

At LECC, 415897 Highway 9, we share Christ’s good news with 10 a.m. small group Bible study, 11 a.m. worship, and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night classes.

Please come and share the joy of our flavorful services which illuminate God’s glory and amazing grace.

God Bless You!

Jeremy Little, Minister
