Eufaula sprints to finish at State Track meet
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Eufaula Ironhead track program continues to produce great athletes and this year was no different as Ledger Folsom placed 15th in the entire state in the Class 3A 100-meter dash with a time of 11.60. Folsom is an all around athlete for the Ironheads as he also plays quarterback.

The Eufaula 4×100 relay team of Peter Lee, Maddox Bridges, Ledger Folsom and Dresden Chiles placed 9th with a time of 43.21 seconds. It was a personal best. They missed going to the finals by .01 of a second.

In the 4×200 Eufaula, ran a personal best with a time of 1:33.45 to place 10th. Each of these athletes competes in different sports. Bridges plays receiver in football and guard in basketball, Chiles is speedster in both track and football, Peter Lee is an exceptional running back in football and competes in track and Folsom is a dual threat quarterback that can beat you with his running ability or throw the deep ball against his opponents.

“Super proud of these young men. They got better and better every week because they are competitors. We may not have stood on the podium today to receive a medal but we broke 2 PR’s today. Our 4×100 was 43.21 placed 9th. The 8th place finishers advance to the finals with a time of 43.20. Yes we lost out, going to the finals by .01. In the 4×200 we ran a PR of 1:33.45 to place 10. In both races we were the only team competing that does not have a track. If you don’t think .01 of a second wouldn’t have made a difference if we had a track to practice handoffs, you are way off base. These boys gave their all and we are proud of you. Love you guys,” Eufaula head coach Larry Newton said.

Eufaula is the only school without a track in the surrounding counties and most of the time they had to travel to Checotah to practice on their track.

Eufaula’s track program has been successful for multiple years under head coach Larry Newton since his hiring in 2012. Macayla Needham earned a Division I scholarship to North Texas State after participating in Eufaula’s Track and Field program.
