The Checotah Lady Wildcats (16-13) came up short by a thread in a high- hitting softball game against Perkins-Tryon 24-23 on Thursday. It was a heartbreaking moment for Checotah and head coach Kory Bible who had a 23-21 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Pe r k ins – Tr yon’s Madison Kasti smashed a pitch for a three-run homerun to win the game.
Lady Wildcat Shaelynn Casey led Checotah (16-13), going 4-for-5 with two home runs, eight RBIs and three runs while Hailey Prince added a sixth inning three-run blast that cut Perkins’ lead to 21-17. Casey put the Lady Tigers in front, 23-21 in the top of the seventh with a threerun triple. Addie Britt was the losing pitcher for the Lady Wildcats as she gave up 23 hits and 15 earned runs over 6.2 innings with two strikeouts and eight walks.
Checotah piled up 25 hits and was led by Kat Anderson, Casey, Aurora Madewell and Sidney Hamilton with four hits each while Kami Hamm, Prince, Maci Britt and Shyanne Madewell had two hits each.
Perkins-Tyron topped Checotah 18-3 in game two on the day.
The Lady Wildcats started the first game on fire as they defeated Cleveland 26-5. Shaelynn Casey had a great game as she drove in five runs on three hits (3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored). Checotah led 10-4 in the second inning after Casey hit a threerun homer followed by Kami Hamm’s double to extend the lead 11-5.
Lady Wildcat pitcher Addie Britt had a great day pitching as she only gave up five runs on seven hits over five innings. Checotah tallied up 22 hits as Hamm led Checotah going 4-for-5 at the plate. Kat Anderson, Aurora Madewell, Addie Britt, Prince. Maci Britt and Shyanne Madewell had two hits each.
Checotah rolled over Okemah 13-11, Ok-mulgee 14-1 and Wilson 11-5 on Tuesday. Hailey Prince hit two homeruns against Wilson. One in the first inning and the second in the fifth.
“The girls have shown up to compete the week of playoffs. We battled through adversity Monday for a come from behind win vs Okemah 13-11. We carried that energy into Tuesday ready to compete. We swung the bats the best we have in two weeks vs. Okmulgee and Wilson,” Checotah head coach Kory Bible said on Tuesday.
