Elementary School Principal resigning
By JERRY FINK MANAGING EDITOR,

The Eufaula School Board accepted the resignation of Elementary School Principal Kristel Hickman during Monday’s monthly meeting. It will be effective at the end of this school year.

Hickman has accepted the position of Crowder High School Principal.

Crowder is in Pittsburg County, about 10 miles south of Eufaula.

The school has an enrolment of about 330 students and a teaching staff of about 25.

Hickman had been director of special services when she was named Eufaula’s elementary school principal in May 2018, following the resignation of Brenda Lewis.

Other resignations, all effective at the end of the 2023–24 school year, include: – Ethan Sharp, high school science teacher and assistant coach.

– Ag instructors Mandy Buck and Terrell Buck.

– Nancy Winters, with the child nutrition staff.

The resignations are effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

In addition to those resignations, the school’s website lists a number of openings, including: A kindergarten teacher, 5th grade teacher, middle school math teacher, high school math teacher, elementary cook, special education paraprofessional, and substitute bus drivers During Monday’s session, principals reported that the testing season has begun, and students are being prepared for the examinations with a variety of exercises such as motivational videos and practice testing.

“We’re in the home stretch for state testing,” said Middle School Principal Jeremy Gragg. “Our testing begins April 18.”

High School Principal Heather Combs also praised Casey’s, the new convenience store that recently opened near the school, for a donation of $500 and for an offer to partner with the school in future endeavors.

“They will give us whatever we need (pizzas and more) as long as we give a couple of week notice,” she said.

Combs also told the Board that the high school prom will be held at 7 p.m. on April 20 at Cedar Creek Ranch.

Superintendent Monty Guthrie reported that fencing for the entrance gate is soon to be delivered and it should be up next week.

Guthrie also told the board of the plan to create a long-term improvement committee.

“We need to prepare for future growth. For future growth, it’s important to stay on longterm goals,” he said.
