Ironheads edge Vian 4-3 in baseball action
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Eufaula Ironheads (66, 4-4) needed a rally to defeat the Vian Wolverines on Friday and they got it. The Ironheads was down 3 to 2 in the top of the seventh inning when Connor McAllister smashed a pitch for a double, scoring a pair of runs for the victory.

Eufaula senior Draven Gragg connected on a pitch for a single, scoring a run prior to McAllister’s heroics.

JP Hicks earned the victory for Eufaula from the mound. Hicks gave up eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking three.

McAllister went l-of-4 with two RBIs, Jaxon Lange 2-for-3, Gragg 2-for-4 with an RBI, Hicks 2-for-4 and Hayden Robinson finished going l-for-4.

“I’m very proud of this team and the underclassmen. I thought that our team did a great job of keeping the ball in front of them and limiting errors. Hicks did a great job pitching today. He seems to improve with each trip to the mound. We just need to play consistently from this point forward,” Eufaula head coach Josh Luna said.

Monday’s game against Spiro was moved to Tuesday due to rain. The Ironheads had to travel to Spiro for a doubleheader against the Bulldogs. Eufaula split with Spiro with each team winning one game apiece.

Spiro topped Eufaula 2-1 in a low scoring matchup. The Bulldogs hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eight innings. Eufaula tied the game as Carson Luna singled on a full count in the sixth inning, scoring Jaxon Lange. Senior Draven Gragg was on the losing end of the pitcher’s duel, lasting 7.1 innings and scattering five hits with both runs allowed. He also recorded eight strikeouts.

In game two the Ironheads bested Spiro 8-6. Spiro jumped out first with two runs in the first inning and added another in the second. The Ironheads answered with a run of their own in the third inning, added three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead.

The Bulldogs tried to rally in the seventh with three runs scored but came up short as they lost 8-6. Hayden Robinson earned the win, allowing three hits and one earned run over 6.1 innings with four strikeouts. Jaxon Lange led Eufaula at the plate going 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, Carson Luna went 2-for-3 and Hayden Robinson was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
