Dickson defeats Lady Wildcats 56-50 in OT
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Checotah Lady Wildcats saw their lead fade away as Dickson rallied to force overtime 42-42. The Lady Wildcats could not stop the play of Cayman Pittman who led all scorers with 21 points including four three-point scores.

Cayman fouled out with 45:55 left in overtime. On the next play Checotah forced Dickson to walk, giving the ball back to the Lady Wildcats. On the next possession Checotah’s Nyah Cloud missed a three-point attempt but Sidney Hamilton grabbed the rebound and passed to Shyanne Madewell who drove to the basket. She was double teamed, forcing her to miss the shot.

Two plays later Ruby Folkner was fouled and she made both shots to make the game 51-50. On the next play Briley Williams went coast to coast and scored, making the game 5350. Aiyana Brewer was fouled on the next play but Brewer missed both shots. Madewell snuck into the paint and battled Emma Gore for the rebound, fouling Gore who made one of her free throws. Dickson sealed the victory when Alexis Stogner hit a jump shot in the final second to win 56-50.

The Lady Wildcats started the game fast, outscoring Dickson 14-7 in the first period but only scored two points in the second period to go into the halftime break trailing 21-16. Checotah outscored Dickson 11-6 in the third period. Checotah head coach Wes Cloud received great effort from his team. Madewell scored 20 points and Brewer added 14 points in the loss. Both Ruthy and Ruby Folkner played great on defense with Ruby scoring nine points. Passing was the factor in the loss as the Lady Wildcats failed to take advantage of opportunities in transition.

“I’m very proud of this team. They played their hearts out today. Give credit to Dickson, they got hot when it counted. It’s not the outcome we wanted but I want this team to know that I’m so proud of their effort today. They have overcome many obstacles this season and never gave up,” Checotah head coach Wes Cloud said.
