Oklahoma City— Oklahoma law enforcement agencies across the State participated in the nation-wide 2023 Winter Holiday Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign which ran from Wednesday, December 13, 2023, to Monday, January 1, 2024. During this time, Oklahomans could anticipate several ENDUI checkpoints and saturation patrols. While the campaign focused on keeping impaired drivers off the road during peak holiday celebrations, the agencies were asked to keep track of additional traffic safety issues, such as speeding, seat belt usage and car seat usage. Below are the initial results for that campaign:
• Impaired Driving Arrests: 728
• Speeding Citations: 6,241
• Speeding Written Warnings: 8,675
• Seat Belt Citations: 1,479
• Seat Belt Written Warning: 76
• Car Seat Citations: 90
• Car Seat Written Warnings: 141
The enforcement efforts brought additional noteworthy accomplishments. The Oklahoma Highway Safety Office was informed that:
• Deputies in the Creek County Sheriff ’s Office made a felony arrest and assisted with a pursuit for another felony arrest during their shifts.
• One checkpoint and saturation patrol with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Lawton Police Department resulted in 15 impaired driving arrests between the two agencies.
• The Guthrie Police Department had 259 total citations issued with six traffic related arrests to include DUIs, warrants, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and other infractions.
• The Woodward County Sheriff ’s Office came across two suspended driver’s licenses and one uninsured motorist and had three fugitives arrested.
