Sooner legend Dewey Selmon to be inducted into the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame named Oklahoma’s Dewey Selmon a member of the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class this past week. Dewey was a part of the Selmon trio of Lucious and Lee Roy that tormented opposing offenses. The Selmon brothers attended Eufaula high school where they played under Hall of Fame coach Paul Bell.

“This is such a blessing. I give all the credit to God, coach Switzer and Bell and to my mother and father and all the teammates I had throughout my football career. The University of Oklahoma is so special to the Selmon family and we are grateful and appreciate everything that they have done for not only myself, but for every player that wore crimson and cream,” Dewey Selmon said.

“This couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person than Dewey. He is truly a wonderful ambassador for the University of Oklahoma and college football. What the Selmons did for college is immeasurable and will never be duplicated,” former OU and Eufaula football player Rusty Griffis said.

Selmon is the 24th former Oklahoma player selected in the College Football Hall of Fame. He played four seasons from 1972-75, winning four Big Eight titles and back-to-back titles from 1974-75.

Dewey played both defensive tackle and nose guard and was a two-time First Team All-American, earning unanimous honors his senior season.

Selmon was inducted in the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Last season, the university unveiled a statue outside of Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium honoring the three Selmon brothers.

Dewey and his brother were drafted in 1976 along with his brother Lee Roy in the first round of the NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lee Roy was drafted No. 1 and Dewey No. 33. They were the foundation of the newly formed Tampa Bay team. Dewey played seven seasons in the NFL with six of them alongside his brother Lee Roy.

The 20 players and three coaches named to the 2024 class will be officially inducted to the Hall of Fame on Dec. 10.
