New librarian named at Eufaula

New librarian named at Eufaula

Amanda Grantham has been named branch manager of Eufaula Memorial Library, replacing Shymekia Adams.

Amanda might look familiar to you because she has been working at the library as a librarian for the past few months.

Amanda has a bachelor’s and master’s in education with an option in library media, with 10 years of library experience.

She is from the McAlester area where she lives with her husband and daughter.

Amanda attended McAl- ester Schools kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating in 2001.

In 2005 she received her bachelor’s in elementary education from Southeastern Oklahoma University, and in 2014 she earned a master’s in education with an option in Library Media from East Central University.

She has 17 years of experience as a publicschool educator.

She began her career in 2006 for Tulsa Public Schools where she taught second grade for two years. During this time she welcomed her only child.

After her short time with TPS, Amanda and her small family moved to her hometown of McAlester.

There she continued her career for the next 15 years, teaching first grade, second grade and STEM for McAlester Public Schools.

About 10 years ago she found her niche in the school library.

She enjoys reading realistic fiction, especially mysteries and thrillers. When she is not reading you can find her spending time with her family and friends, swimming or crocheting.

Amanda says, “I look forward to serving the Eufaula community and bringing more awareness about the library and its programs to the people.”

She highlighted some of the activities currently available at the library: There is a crafting club called Stitches and Strings that meets two Saturdays a month at the library in the Follansbee Room. Their next meeting will be on January 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All you have to do to join is come with your crafting supplies. This is a come-and-go event.

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of origami? You are in luck! There is a Beginner Adult Origami class on January 22 at 5 p.m. All the supplies will be provided for the class.

“We would like to thank the City of Eufaula for their hard work and diligence in keeping our building running, not only during the cold weather but yearround,” Grantham said.

She also would like to thank the Friends of the Eufaula Memorial Library (FEML) for their financial support and active participation in building these kinds of programs.

FEML is looking for new members to join and continue to help build the library. Their next monthly program luncheon is 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 19. Contact President Gail Rose at member. FEML@gmail.com to join.
