WILBURTON – Eastern Oklahoma State College received a $300,000 grant from the Fugitt Foundation to support the growth and development of its nursing program.

“We are immensely grateful to the Fugitt Foundation for their generous support,” said Eastern President Dr. Janet Wansick. “This donation will empower us to enhance the quality and accessibility of our nursing program while addressing the critical need for highly skilled and qualified nurses.”

The grant will be pivotal in addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals, particularly in Southeastern Oklahoma.

Eastern has put forth a comprehensive plan to utilize the funds that includes expanding recruitment and retention efforts, introducing an online LPN to RN program, and upgrading instructional equipment in nursing laboratories.

The Fugitt Foundation’s commitment of $300,000 will be instrumental in increasing access to the LPN transition program and boosting the number of graduating RNs, enhancing student education on patient safety through technology and hands-on learning, and ensuring students have up-to-date resources and equipment in laboratory settings.

“We believe that investing in nursing education is a strategic way to address the healthcare challenges in Southeastern Oklahoma,” said Tim Diehl, Fugitt Foundation trustee. “The Fugitt Foundation is proud to support Eastern Oklahoma State College in their mission to produce highly competent and compassionate nurses.”

This substantial grant exemplifies the Fugitt Foundation’s commitment to fostering educational excellence and positively impacting healthcare outcomes in the region.

Eastern’s Department of Nursing offers an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree at its Wilburton, McAlester and Idabel campuses.
