Arts Council fosters cultural enrichment with Tulsa field trip

The Eufaula Area Arts Council, dedicated to fostering a vibrant cultural community, recently sponsored an enriching field trip for the youth of Eufaula.

On January 2, during the Christmas break, a group of eager students attended the Broadway sensation, “Hairspray,” at the prestigious Performing Arts Center in Tulsa.

Selina Jayne-Dornan, a strong advocate for nurturing artistic aspirations, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for the youth of Eufaula to be able to witness and experience a full Broadway production,” Dornan said. “By exposing them to the discipline, creativity and dedication behind a national production, we hope this will inspire a lasting passion for the arts and the pursuit of big dreams.”

Eufaula Area Arts Council demonstrated its commitment by approving the purchase of 15 tickets and transportation cost for the students to see the “Hairspray” performance.

With a focus on the Eufaula Performing and Arts Club for students, the council, led by Glenna McBride, recognizes the importance of overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic’s isolation.

“Due to the extreme isolation our youth faced during the Covid pandemic, opportunities for speech encounters have become a priority,” Mc-Bride said. “Enhancing communication skills, building confidence, fostering better listening, developing leadership abilities, cultivating social agility, encouraging critical thinking and providing avenues for career advancement have become key objectives for our youth. We anticipate many more encounters to refine the speaking skills for our talented youngsters.”

The success of this undertaking marks a significant milestone for the Eufaula Area Arts Council, and the organization extends its gratitude for the understanding and cooperation received.

For more information, contact Eufaula Chamber of Commerce at 918-689-2791 or by email at news@eufaulaareaarts. org. This project was made possible through the generous support from the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation, illustrating the power of collaboration in enriching the cultural fabric of this community. The Eufaula Area Arts Council looks forward to many more initiatives that will inspire, educate and uplift the artistic spirit of our youth, Mc-Bride said.
