Lady Ironheads cage Checotah Wildcats

The No.12 ranked Eufaula Lady Ironheads (5-1) topped the Checotah Lady Wildcats 46-37 at Eufaula without Kambry Williams, who sustained an ankle injury against Beggs. Eufaula dominated the first period as Allie Anderson and Jordas Mc-Clish forced numerous turnovers. The game started with Maddie Ballard scoring then McClish hit a shot from outside the perimeter. Anderson scored from the paint and Kate Pippenger scored to take a 9-0 lead after they forced four consecutive turnovers and converted them into points. Nyah Cloud put Checotah on the board with 42.3 seconds to play to make it a 1-2 game but McClish ended the period at the free throw line, scoring a point to end the period 15-2.

The Lady Wildcats came alive in the second period, outscoring Eufaula 15-10. McClish and Johna Bumgarner combined for five points to start the period up 224. Cloud scored again to cut the lead 22-6 Jazlyn Atkins scored followed by Aiyana Brewer and Cloud to make it a 2411.

Ruthy Folkner hit a three-point shot to make it 24-14 with 1:01 on the clock. Pippenger would add a point from the foul line but Folkner hit another long threepointer to make the game 25-17 at the halftime break.

The Lady Ironheads came out of the break focused as they outscored Checotah 15-9. Brewer began to compete hard in the paint as she scored the Lady Wildcats first four points. Folkner hit a jumper to cut the lead 27-26 with 3:54 left in the third period. Ballard and Jadence Efurd scored the points for Eufaula to make it 3226. Bumgarner had a big game on both ends of the court as she finished with six points. McClish was on fire as she scored seven of her 16 points in the third period as Eufaula ended the period up 40-26.

The Lady Wildcats were tormented by the defensive effort by Anderson, Ballard and Mc-Clish. With 4:25 on the clock, Cloud made a three-point shot to cut the lead 44-34. However, Bumgarner and Ballard could not be stopped as they scored on the next two possessions. Sidney Hamilton gave Checotah a boost as she hit a three-point with just over a minute on the clock. Once Eufaula had the ball again, they dribbled out the clock to seal the 46-37 win.

McClish led all players with 16 points, Anderson nine, Bumgarner six and Ballard, Efurd and Pippenger each finished with five points.

Checotah was led by Aiyana Brewer with ten points, Ruby Folkner six, Ruthy Folkner and Cloud added seven points each.

Weekly Round Down

Eufaula Lady Ironheads defeated Beggs 51-33. Kambry Williams had 18 points. Eufaula was in control the entire game as they led 23-19 at the halftime break The Eufaula Boys’ team topped Beggs 6535. Eufaula had seven players hit three-point shots. Eufaula led 36-6 at halftime. Keaton Parish had 14 points and Maddox Bridges added 13 points.

Sallisaw edged out the Checotah Lady Wildcats 47-34. Checotah could not close the gap of 4228 at the end of the third period. Aiyana Brewer led Checotah with 10 points.

Checotah Boys’ team fell 42-36 to Sallisaw. Elijah Thomas led Checotah with 14 points, Tyler Orman had 11 and RJ Womack added 5 points. Womack has come into his own as the junior had an unofficial 10 rebounds and six steals for the Wildcats.

PORUM 51 defeated CANADIAN 29 (G) Class A No. 18 Porum had a 21-19 lead at intermission and used a 15-5 run in the third to stretch that score to 3624. Courtney Pease led the Lady Panthers (8-0) with 22 points and Nora Barnes finished with 11.

PORUM 44 sweeps CANADIAN 33 (B) — Porum opened with a solid 21-11 lead at the end of the first but by halftime Canadian had trimmed that lead to 2723. The Panthers (4-5) were able to put some distance between them as they ended the third period with a 33-25 advantage. Michael Wright starred with 19 points while Cooper Franklin had 14.
