Help create a happier holiday season for children in foster care

MUSKOGEE – As the holiday season approaches, it is crucial to remember the needs of children in the child welfare system. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are stepping up to make a significant difference in the lives of these vulnerable children.

Suzanne Hughes, Executive Director of CASA for Children, stresses the importance of considering the wellbeing of these children during this festive time.

She says, “While the holiday season is meant to be a joyous time for families, it can be especially challenging for children in the child welfare system. Many of them are separated from their families, experience uncertainty, and lack the stability that other children may have.”

CASA volunteers play a pivotal role in ensuring that these children’s voices are heard and their needs are met. These dedicated advocates devote their time and effort to provide support, guidance, and stability during a time that can be particularly difficult for children in foster care.

According to Hughes, “CASA volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of these children. They form lasting relationships by being consistent sources of support and by speaking up on their behalf in courtrooms, schools, and their communities.”

CASA volunteers provide exceptional one-on-one attention to the children they work with, ensuring their concerns are heard and their best interests are prioritized. By gathering information from all relevant parties, including social workers, teachers, and healthcare providers, CASA volunteers develop a comprehensive understanding of the child’s situation and advocate for appropriate resources and support systems.

Hughes continues, “The impact of having a CASA volunteer cannot be understated. With their strong commitment and dedication, these volunteers become life-changing figures for children who, in many cases, have experienced neglect, abuse, and loss of familial connections.”

Becoming a CASA volunteer is a valuable way for caring individuals to make a difference. The process involves comprehensive training that equips volunteers with the skills necessary to understand the child welfare system and effectively advocate for the needs of the children. CASA for Children provides continuous support, guidance, and supervision throughout the volunteer experience to ensure the best outcomes for both the children and volunteers.

This holiday season, let us not forget the importance of considering the needs of children in the child welfare system. By becoming a CASA volunteer, individuals can bring joy, stability, and hope to the lives of vulnerable children, making a lasting impact that extends far beyond the holiday season.
