That is a great question! Some people have a skeptical approach to life and faith. I respect that because that is how I am. I cannot just believe because I am told to believe. Christianity is a relationship and commitment that should not be entered into lightly. I respect honest searching, but eventually you come to a place for faith. Take Thomas for instance in John 20.
“A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. “John 20:26-30 Thomas did not just believe because he heard a good story, but when he experienced for himself he made the greatest confession of all, “My Lord and My God.” This is the clearest understanding of who Jesus really was in the Bible. You may then ask I have not had an experience like Thomas so how can I believe. We enter into faith when we trust something to be true. We can believe like Thomas because what he and the other disciples experienced and did, changed the world. Verse 31 tells us the John wrote these things that we could believe. In reading the Bible we can experience the presence of God in our lives. In closing if you doubt that Thomas’ confession was real, history tells us that he believed enough to die for his faith.
