Under One Roof tastes success
By JERRY FINK MANAGING EDITOR,

More than 200 people got a taste of local cuisine at the Local Flavor fundraiser Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The winners of Best Food were Dobber’s Roadhouse and Best Decorated Booth was Mama Tig’s.

Under One Roof, sponsor of the annual event, raised about $10,000 to help support the organization that provides office space at a reduced rate for 16 agencies and organizations that assist the community.

Ticket sales and Restaurant Roulette (a spinner game) brought in $1,000, according to Kim Woodruff, executive director of Under One Roof.

Live and silent auctions garnered $3,630 and sponsorships earned approximately $5,000.

“$10,000 will go a long way to helping the charities located within Under One Roof,” Woodruff said. “This keeps their rent lower than market rate and so they don’t have to pay for any utilities, or maintenance costs by being a tenant here.

“It will also help us help more people who come in needing emergency help through our thrift shop, 2nd Chances Thrift Shop.”

Participants who made this year’s event a success included 12 restaurants and 11 sponsors.

Picture Me Silly was contracted by Under One Roof to provide a memento for the evening for the guests and many volunteers.

Volunteers included youth and leaders from the Eufaula Girl Scouts; Student Council and cheerleaders; Elder Graviet and Elder Reynolds; Geri Cozby; Pam Rossi; Serenity and Kasie Witherell, and many others.

Justin Kerns was the auctioneer. He has volunteered his time with Local Flavor since 2017.

The Eufaula Masonic Lodge #1 also sponsors the auctions, both live and silent.

“Very generous donations were made by the Eufaula Masonic Lodge #1 and local businesses,” Woodruff said.

The Lodge also drove golf carts brought by their members and donated by Xtreme RV, to bring people from the parking lot to the event at the Xtreme RV Clubhouse.

Xtreme RV generously donated the space and their staff. “Dominique Graham and Sarah Burton and their staff were very helpful and accommodating, helping us with anything we needed to make the event successful,” Woodruff said.

The Board of Directors for Under One Roof also volunteered, as did staff members.

Board members present were: Shryl Hulme, Chair; Connie Nance, Vice Chair; Greg Contreras, Treasurer; Lesa King, Board Liaison. Staff of Under One Roof: Kim Woodruff, Executive Director; Brenda Mc-Mahan, Administrative Assistant; John Chavez, Maintenance Supervisor; Liz Chavez, support staff, Regina LaRue and grandson, Jodie.

Sponsors included Wampler Ford; Destination 420; Arvest Bank; Farmer’s State Bank; Dunn Country Chevrolet; Hunn Black & Merritt; OG&E; God’s Helping Hands; East Central Electric; Terry’s Roofing and Lake and Bake.
