Welcoming Statement of Eufaula First United Methodist Church 2019

United Methodist Church News

In 2019 the Eufaula United Methodist Church wrote a “Welcoming Statement” which was published in the Indian Journal. We think it’s time to publish that again, so that everyone remembers “All are welcome in this place.”

First United Methodist Church of Eufaula is called to the ministry of the sacred worth of all people. We embrace as a gift the diversity of our community and the world. We rejoice in our human family’s diversity of faith history, economic status, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, race and other differences -real or perceived.

We hear the cries of all who call out for love and justice. We affirm that all people are created in the image of God and as beloved children of God, all are worthy of God’s love and grace. We are called by God to raise the level of hope for those who have been marginalized and singled out for exclusion, including our gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex sisters and brothers.

Our passion for a wide welcome to all God’s children moves us to participate in ministries through which we might truly open minds, open hearts, and open doors. We welcome the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of First United Methodist Church of Eufaula as our church family strives to be more like Christ.

We recognize that there are differences among us, but believe that we can love alike even though we may not think alike.

We declare this statement of welcome to all who have known the pain of exclusion and discrimination in the church or in society. We know that everyone’s participation in our ministries enriches us beyond measure. We invite all people to join us in our faith journey toward greater love, understanding, and mutual respect.

If you haven’t been to Church in a while, give us a try at Eufaula First United Methodist. You will find a welcoming gathering of people worshiping in our new sanctuary! Sunday Worship service begins at 11:00 and Sunday School is at 9:45. Please join us at 251 Matthews Lane between Love’s and the cemetery on Business 69. Our motto is “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.”
